June 5th in Canton — First Friday, Summer Bash, and What We Can We Shall Is Building This Summer
Some days just feel like a statement.
June 5th is one of those days for We Can We Shall.
Starting at 5PM we will be at Centennial Plaza at 330 Court Ave NW for First Friday Canton. Our tent opens, our team shows up, and we spend the evening being exactly what we committed to being when we launched in January — a consistent, visible presence in the heart of Canton for the youth and families in this community.
Then at 9PM the Summer Bash kicks off at 1726 Cleveland Ave NW. Free entry. Music. Energy. A community coming together in a way that Canton's young people deserve to experience all summer long.
Two events. One night. One message.
We are here. We are not going anywhere. And this summer we are just getting started.
Why First Friday Every Month
When We Can We Shall made the commitment to show up at First Friday Canton every single month it was not a marketing decision. It was a values decision.
Consistency is the most important thing an organization can offer a community that has experienced too many people and too many programs showing up once and disappearing. One appearance is a moment. Two appearances is a pattern. Twelve appearances across a year is a relationship.
First Friday draws thousands of people to downtown Canton every month. Families, young people, community members who are already there enjoying their city. We Can We Shall does not need to create an audience. We just need to show up in the middle of the one that already exists and be present in a way that is genuine, consistent, and without agenda.
Every month we set up our tent. Every month we meet new families. Every month more young people in Canton see the same faces showing up for them in the same place. That accumulation of presence is how trust gets built. Not overnight. Not in a single dramatic moment. Month after month after month until showing up is just what We Can We Shall does.
That is what June 5th at Centennial Plaza represents. Not just another event. The second data point in a pattern that we intend to make undeniable over the course of this year.
Why the Summer Bash
The Summer Bash came from a simple observation.
Summer is the hardest season for Canton's youth. School structures disappear. Programs end. The calendar empties out right when young people have the most unstructured time on their hands and the least amount of organized community around them.
Research on summer and youth development is consistent and sobering. Young people in under-resourced communities experience the widest negative outcomes during summer months when positive structured alternatives are absent. Not because of who they are. Because of what fills the space when nothing intentional is created for them.
We Can We Shall is creating something intentional.
The Summer Bash on June 5th at 1726 Cleveland Ave NW is free entry. That is non-negotiable and it is not accidental. One of the biggest barriers to community engagement in Canton is cost. Events that require tickets or any kind of financial commitment immediately exclude the families who need connection the most. We Can We Shall events will always be free because belonging should never have a price tag.
The Summer Bash is music and energy and community. It is Canton's young people having somewhere to be on a Friday night that was built specifically for them. It is families coming out together to a space where they feel welcomed without being managed or assessed or asked to prove they deserve to be there.
It is We Can We Shall doing what we said we would do. Creating moments worth showing up for. Consistently. All summer long.
What Two Events on the Same Night Actually Means
June 5th is not just a busy day on the calendar. It is a demonstration of what We Can We Shall is committed to building in Canton this summer.
First Friday at 5PM means we show up for the families who come out early. The parents with younger kids. The community members who want to learn about the organization. The potential volunteers and partners who have been following along and want to see us in person for the first time.
The Summer Bash at 9PM means we show up for the teenagers. The young people who come alive later in the evening. The ones who need somewhere to go and something to look forward to when the sun goes down on a Friday in June.
Two different times. Two different audiences. Both of them Canton. Both of them deserving of an organization that thought about them specifically and showed up accordingly.

What the Rest of Summer Looks Like
June 5th is the beginning of something We Can We Shall is building intentionally across the entire summer of 2026.
First Friday every month at Centennial Plaza starting at 5PM. Back to school programming leading into August. A growing resource guide for Canton families covering free summer activities, food assistance, housing support, and financial help. Volunteer opportunities for community members who want to be part of the work. Partnerships with Canton organizations who share the mission of investing in this community's youth.
Every month we show up. Every event we create is free. Every resource we build is available to every Canton family that needs it.
Because the young people in this city deserve a summer worth remembering. And the families raising them deserve a community that shows up all summer long not just in September when school starts and the cameras come out.
We Can We Shall is here. June 5th and every Friday after it.
We can. We shall.
